Hopefully this update finds you all safe and well. This is the first of my weekly updates leading up to my cycling challenge on the 27th August. If you missed the launch article you can find that here. In short I have set myself the challenge of cycling the 180km from our Clubhouse at Occupation Road to Cromer Pier to help raise money for access improvements to the clubhouse. Here is how I got on this week.

After a weekend off, Tuesday was my first training cycle over 50 miles. Starting at Coach Andy's house in Raunds to complete the 52 miles through keyston, Molesworth, Elton, Fortheringhay then back via Oundle and Thrapston.

The next first for me was stopping for coffee and cake before getting back on the bike. This is important to get right so that I am taking on food at the correct times so it kicks in as my energy dips. Once I was back on the bike it took a few miles for the legs to work again.

Wednesday resulted in one of the most important firsts, thanks to Club Communications Manager, Matt Fleming, together we launched the challenge on the club website and created the Just Giving page. Thanks to your generosity the fund has already reached £200 from only 9 donations.

If you would like to donate to help fund better access to the less able bodied club members and those in the wider community, please click here to visit the Just Giving page.

On Thursday I followed Coach Andy's advice with a 40 minute on line spin class and he also suggested a short run before our 70 mile cycle on Tuesday.

So, tonight a 20 mile run in the Rutland Valley ending with me panting all the way up Rocky Hill without stopping, another first.

Until next week, stay safe and spread the message.

Tom.
