Malcolm Thompson is our groundsman here at S&L RFC and what a hell of a job he does. We have the best pitch in the league, whatever the weather, and all of this is done by one volunteer! His own time, dedicated to ensuring we have 3 pitches in fantastic condition so they can be played on any time of the year.
Malcolm not only cuts the grass and marks out the pitches but he puts himself through training to make sure he is educated to give us the best quality playing surfaces. He also spends a lot of his time maintaining all the equipment and completing some odd jobs in all areas of the club. He is the perfect volunteer.
For all that he does, other clubs have multiple volunteers and some paid positions too! We owe a lot to Malcolm and with that the senior players of the club put their hands in their pockets to purchase a few gifts for Malcolm, as an appreciation for all that he does.
A couple of Club Members told us what Malcolm and his work means to them:

What can i I say that hasn’t been already said about Malc Thompson.
Since I returned back to Stewarts & Lloyd’s, I’ve constantly seen the hard work and dedication he puts in to make our facilities the best they can be. Cutting pitches, marking lines, ensuring everything is in check, is just a small amount that this man gives the club.
One thing that will always stick with me however, is the man’s honesty, respect and love for the club, and the people around it. The support he has given me along with the advice and wisdom, is something I always take on board and listen too.
The moments we shared last year together I will never forget, and I hope myself and the team can keep him smiling in this upcoming season.
Thanks Malc, we owe you a lot!

Malcy Thompson for me epitomises what a true clubman is. His work allows everyone playing at the club to play rugby week in week out, from seniors to the mini and juniors.
The rugby season isn’t all year round, but what Malcy does is and without his dedication and effort we wouldn’t be playing on one of the best pitches in the East Midlands.
I can’t thank him enough for all the work he does and when you combine that with the support he gives each Saturday on the sideline, we truly have our 16th man with us on the field.
