Club Coach Tom Cleary and Club Captain Connor Fleming are launching a fantastic fundraising initiative to mark the end of Movember. A number of players have been taking part in Movember, growing moustaches to help raise awareness for male cancers, mental health and suicide. To date they have also collectively raised over £1100 for the Movember charity. Tom has also been walking 60 miles every week for the past month, which culminates on Sunday in a 60 mile walk in 24 hours!
That brings us to, Date with a Mate. On Sunday 29th November at midday, Tom and Connor are undertaking the mammoth task of walking 60 miles, in Corby and the surrounding area in 24 hours. No sleep, just walking. To coincide with this they are launching the initiative, Date with a Mate. They want everyone to take part by getting in touch with a friend on Sunday to catch up or check in. This could be a phone call, perhaps a walk or even a safe socially distanced visit to a friends doorstep.
Globally on average, one man dies from suicide every minute of every day! So thinking about those figures, Tom and Connor would like you to incorporate them into your Sunday. Whilst they are walking 60 miles (60 secs in a minute) in 24 hours (the amount of time they are walking for) they would like to see you talk with a mate on the phone for 60 minutes, or longer of course. Or make that walk with a friend last 24 minutes or walk for 2.4 miles. The creativity they leave in your hands but if you share with them your ‘Date with a Mate’ you will be up for winning a real date with a mate at Posh Paddy's Irish Bar & Grill. To share just use the hashtag #datewithamate6024challenge on any of the social media channels.
They would like to use the walk to not only raise awareness but also to raise money for 3 great charities. They will continue to raise money for Movember but have added Corby Mind and the Northampton Saints Foundation. You can help them reach their £1000 target by donating to their page here. If you aren’t able to make a donation they ask that you share their page and story to help spread the awareness of their fantastic charities and their causes.
We will help to keep you up to speed with their walk throughout the 24 hours. Tom and Connor will also be taking part in their own Date with a Mate throughout their walk by contacting people via phone and FaceTime as well as having some friends join them on the walk. All will be taking place socially distanced of course and we want to make sure your date also complies with lockdown rules, so please stay safe.
Please help their efforts by donating (here) if you can but also sharing their updates and fundraising link. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #datewithamate6024challenge so they can see your support and your ‘Date with a Mate’.
