For 2 Fridays in a row, we have hosted 2 fixtures under the lights at Occupation Road.

On the 3rd Feb we hosted Kettering U16 Girls and Oakham U16 Girls. This was the first time a girls match has been played at Occupation road and it was a fantastic game. This was also the return of Ex-S&L players Neave and Cassie. They came through our MIni section but unfortunately had to leave the club when their age group were no longer allowed to play with mixed sex teams. They moved to local rivals Kettering and under the lights they beat Oakham 64-5. It was great to see Neave and Cassie back playing at the club and wish them all the best for their future rugby careers. We hope this is only the beginning of girls rugby at S&L RFC and would love to have our own team in the future. If you are interested in your daughter joining the club or feel you can help in any way with a women’s team, please get in touch: info@stewartsandlloydsrfc.com

Last Friday night, S&L U15s hosted Stoneygate on an emotional day for the club.

Prior to kick-off, an impeccably observed minutes silence was held for Ron Crooks, who sadly passed away recently. RIP Ron, you will be sorely missed by many.

Despite playing downhill for the first half, S&L found Stoneygate to be in the mood to play some exciting rugby, with strong ball carriers and a pacey backline causing problems. After 25 minutes it was 33-0 and things were looking troubling. However, the lads re-grouped well, started to exert some pressure and finished the half strongly with Ben scoring in the corner, 33-5 at half-time.

Playing uphill second half seemed to galvanize the S&L team as they fought for every yard, battling away for 17-18 minutes before they finally broke the defences. One final score came for Stoneygate to see the game finish 45-5.

It was a fantastic second half performance by the team against a very well organized and coached Stoneygate side. The coaches are delighted with the huge improvements being shown week on week by the team and the remainder of the season looks promising!

Player of the match was Zak.

Everyone Loves a Friday Night Lights game and we are very privileged to have the fantastic facilities we do in order to host these fixtures. We look forward to many more Friday Night matches in the future.
