Today we are launching the new club playing jersey for seasons 2020 - 22. With a design firmly in the roots of the club when it was founded back in 1936, we have taken the clubs original shirt and brought it into a new era. The striking white collar on an all black playing shirt is iconic of Stewarts & Lloyds RFC and recognisable by all in the Midlands.
Stewarts & Lloyds Steel Works founded the club in 1936 alongside other teams and sports in the area as recreation for their workers. These roots in the community are still strong throughout the club today. We want to honour all those hard working steel workers and the wider community who helped to build this town and make our club what it is today.
The ongoing pandemic has bought many of us closer to one another and we must remember how the club not only survived, but thrived and continued to play both with and against an estimated 16,000 service men during World War II. Our club culture and community spirit, which was started back in 1936 and is still strong today, will help us to come through the other side of this tough time as a club and as a family.
As we enter this new era we thought it befitting that we honour our heritage, the players and the community with this iconic shirt. We have also gone one step further and created a cotton supporters shirt so that it’s not only the players who can pull on the jersey and feel the history and the pride of our great club and town. The supporters shirt (shown below) is now available on the online store in both short and long sleeved and if you order before 5pm on Monday 14th December, Macron have guaranteed delivery before Christmas.
