S&L RFC U16s (36) v (24) Peterborough
Following some late call-offs for the visitors this past Sunday, the game went ahead at 13-a-side with some assistance from the home side to even up the numbers. Special mentions and praise for the awesome help supplied by all the guys (Hassam, Owen, Frankie, Harvey, Bradley, Chris, Rowan, Reece & Aiden) who switched sides for periods of the game and made it a very entertaining and competitive fixture!
With the disruption to the teams and the extra space available, the game was always going to be high scoring, and if it wasn't the middle of December, it would have been a lot more. However, conditions probably favored S&L slightly on a muddy pitch in their very strong go-forward approach and it wasn't long before lock Harvey Blair crossed from close range for the first of his 2 scores of the afternoon.

Peterborough responded in kind throughout the game as S&L never got more than 2 scores in front - but were able to always maintain their lead through tries from scrum-half Olly Greenfield who showed great pace to run in S&L's third score. Fly-half Ethan Baker and centre Bradley Adams (who also landed 3 conversions for an 11 point total tally) went over in the second period following some excellent work by the forwards and equally by the backs for finding the space out wide to score. Skipper Rhys Cook stepped through the defence to score in the last period to cap a man of the match performance for a mammoth effort in terms of the number of carries and tackles as he and the opposing number 8 (also the visitor's man of the match) went head to head in an awesome match up.

Manager Mark Williams said after the game that this was one of the best performances of the season so far and should give them the boost needed ahead of next week's tough away fixture at Barkers Butts.
