After four months of extreme heat, extreme bbq’s and the odd shandy or two, they have resulted in not quite the beach body I was looking for. But it has allowed time for the committee and I to undertake some serious leaps forward in securing the clubs future. An announcement will be made shortly concerning the clubs involvement in a significant community engagement, so keep a look out for that. For the rest of the club the “off season” has been a period of change management, with the dreaded bug thankfully no longer ruling our lives or our beloved game.
We give a huge S&L welcome to our new 1st XV sponsors Corby MOT on their return to Occupation Road and hope for a long and enjoyable partnership. We don’t completely say goodbye to Corby Steel as Ester and her gang remain supportive club members.
New people in key positions bring a new vigour and excitement to the club committee. Malc Crooks as Vice Chair and Mark Williams as Mini Junior Chair step up to the dizzy heights and have already made their presence known. We thank those who have stepped aside to fill other roles.
Pre-Season training has proven difficult, mainly because the ground is a little on the firm side, or as club coach Tom Cleary put it “it’s like playing on Asda car park”. The main pitch however still looks magnificent and is a credit to Malc Thompson and his team.
This week we would like to welcome our families, friends and supporters back to Occupation Road as we kick off our 2022/23 campaign with a home fixture against the newly promoted and flying high Biggleswade RFC.
With life’s frustrations and a prolonged period of rugby wilderness, I have never seen the club so pumped awaiting a 3.00pm on Saturday. Whatever the outcome it will always be one club - our club which is the fabric of our success.
