Please welcome Simon Mullin, your New Club Chairman. With 15+ years of experience as Club Secretary under his belt, there's no better person for the Job. Simon has given countless hours to the Club and many of it's successes are down to the partnership between Adey and himself. So when Adey was contemplating retirement he knew there was only one person who could succeed him. Below is a letter from your new Chairman:
Hi Everybody
This is my first letter as the new Club Chairman. It seems strange to be in that role after 15+ years as Club Secretary!!
At our recent Club AGM we saw changes in several committee roles. So first of all I’d like to thank the departing committee members, including our past Chairman Adey Mitchell. The club are indebted to all of your service over the years and will miss the experience you have around how the club is run.
I’d like to welcome the new committee members and there will be a further post highlighting who has joined the general committee soon. Remember the club always needs volunteers so please drop me a message or call if you are interested in helping the club in anyway.
With the dust settling from what was the most successful year in the club’s history, we are in the midst of the post season, preparing for life in Counties 1. The fixture list was released last week which shows the 1st XV travelling to Old Laurentians September 7th. The Coaching Team are preparing pre pre season sessions with actual pre-season beginning in July. The playing management team led by Director of Rugby Tom Cleary and Club Captain Dev Riley are quite rightly excited about the start to the season, as preparations look towards 7th September 2024. Preseason friendlies will be announced shortly.
The club continues to explore the possibility of structural improvements to widen our community engagement, focusing on female participation and accessible access to the clubhouse. Id like to remind you the JustGiving page is live to win the Courtney Lawes signed England shirt.
Outside the Mens section the club have started to see the growth in the womens section training on a Tuesday and Thursday evenings and will be entering into the RFU Inner Warrior League next season. This is a great way of engaging the community further and looking forward to seeing the Womens section flourish.
The Mini Junior section has gone from strength to strength and I’m very much looking forward to next season to see how the section continues to grow. A taster session is being organised by Mini & Junior Chairman Mark and his committee. The date for this will be announced shortly.
A small reminder that membership is due, for the playing and mini junior section. Connor Fleming has done a sterling job in arranging Kit Bundles with our Kit Supplier Macron, so have a look on the website as these are live now.
On a final note it’s great to see Ewan Wilkinson, Rhys Cook and Jay Manson representing East Midlands Under 20s at Twickenham last weekend and winning the county championship with our own Jay getting Player of the Match! Congratulations to you all!
It’s great to be back, see you soon.
Your Chairman
Simon Mullin
