We are running a new series and this time we are highlighting our volunteers.

Without our volunteers the club would not be able to function. There are so many roles behind the scenes which most people are not aware of, but they are vital to keep the club running.

This week we are highlighting the work of our Team Manager, Malcolm Crooks. Malcolm plays a vital role at the club, keeping the playing side of the club in order. Making sure the kit is cleaned and set out ready for the players, providing support to the coaching staff and players, ensuring match days run smoothly and so much more!

We asked some of our players for their thoughts on what Malcolm does for the club and how his work helps them.

Kieran Manson (1stXV Player)

Big Malky is somewhat of a club stalwart. He earned his stripes as a great player for the club and now he continues to be a pivotal part of the senior set up as team manager.

Although im sure everyone hears and sees him on the sideline on a Saturday, a lot of people don't see what he does behind the scenes week in week out. Prepping our changing rooms home and away, sorting our tape, organising kit washes, helping out with anything he can around the club and spreading his knowledge to the Minis & Juniors as well.  He's been a top player for the club (still enjoying a cameo from time to time) and a great team manager, but most importantly a good friend to all!

Nick Bates (1stXV Player)

Malky does so much for us all in terms of making sure everything runs smoothly from ensuring there is the correct kit available and match balls to making us all feel special on a saturday. The phrase ‘proper preperation prevents poor performance’ was first coined to me by Milan Crooks nearly 20 years ago and Malcolm epitimises this for the senior squad via his due diligence every week. To have the changing rooms laid out with our names, match shirts, warm up tops, juices and bananas, pre set the day before. And on away games he is always there before the rest of the squad to make sure the same practice is upheld! Without Malcolm doing this, our jobs would be so much harder and he takes so much pressure away with what other people may see as small details, but there really do matter. It’s not just on TV where you see team changing rooms looking so good, even at level 8 we have the same superstar treatment and he has made this journey feel so special. And it’s not over just yet!

Tansley Naylor (1stXV Vice Captain)

Malcom’s commitment to ensuring the boys have everything we need come Saturday afternoon is second to none. He goes above and beyond the call of duty time and time again. For me personally, Malc’s has been a shoulder to cry on, a mate to laugh with and an incredible role model, my son and I look up to. The club simply wouldn’t be the same without him. Thank you for everything Malcolm.

We are always looking for volunteers to help at the club so if you would like to help your club to continue to thrive, please let us know how you think you can help. There is a position for everyone.
